Mastication is the agency and forestry-science term for forestry mulching — mechanically grinding standing vegetation into mulch in place. The U.S. Forest Service, BLM, and fire-mitigation contracts say 'mastication'; landowners and contractors say 'mulching.' Same machines, same work. If you're searching government solicitations for mulching work, search mastication. (It's also where the name Mastiff comes from.)
